Everyone knows that how good your hair looks in Second Life is an accurate measure of how good you are. In that way, SL does mirror RL. Part of the issue is "what is hair and where do I get it?" the noob strains against his own bad style. Until now that there is a shopping sim completely dedicated to your hair-appeal, making finding that perfect doo relatively easy and quickly too. I stumbled into Hairspray (hairspray 21,22) the other day by chance, and I had to say that I was impressed immediatley in the consistent theme that the creators chose for their sim. Permission? Unlikely. Trademarks? Hey, that's for real life! In addition to the Hairspray, Hairspray the Musical, Hairspray the Movie again, references, the whole sim oozes of some fruit smoothie of candy colored atomic age cartoons. The shops have a distinctive Flinstones via the Jetsons design motif - even being greeted by the Rosie the Robot as you teleport in on a spinning record. I found it hard to leave this spot, and stayed being ignored by gals at a rate of two a minute. Perhaps I need a better hair style?

Part of the intent of this blog is to share my experiences in Second Life and comment of things I find there that others might be interested in. I'm pretty sure The Beatles still have a following?! I visited ground zero for the Fab Four, The Cavern Club - located in the Mathew Street Sim (Mathew Street 139,129), a Liverpool themed homage to the famous rl street. I'm not a big fan of camping, but I am willing to overlook it to get a sense of the space that launched the mop tops onto the world stage.
The inside is authentically Cavern Club, and I even do away with my usual strict critiques of low ceilings and narrow doors in SL, but only this once. I don't know if they are staging events at this venue, which is a really cool idea to get people to spend time in the sim (rather than the zombie camping team). If not, what a waste. My highlight was to play Mr Richard Starkey for a moment, but how much cooler if there was a real band happening.
